As we close to kick off the month, we earmarked a special tribute to some of the top Black hair masters who have impacted culture one strand at a time.
Ursula Stephen is a highly skilled hairstylist known for her work with celebrities such as Rihanna, Zendaya, and Kerry Washington. She owns the Ursula Stephen Salon in Brooklyn, New York, and has been featured in major publications such as Vogue, Allure, Glamour, and Elle. Stephen also mentors aspiring hairstylists, regularly sharing her knowledge and expertise through education and workshops.

She has worked with numerous celebrities, including Cardi B, Kylie Jenner, and Nicki Minaj, and has gained a significant following on social media for her unique hairstyles.
Shani Crowe is a Chicago-based artist and hairstylist known for her intricate and culturally significant braided hairstyles. Her work often explores themes of Black identity, spirituality, and history and has been exhibited in museums and galleries across the United States. Her creative vision and technical skill have made her a leading figure in contemporary hair artistry and a powerful voice in the conversation around Black hair and beauty.
Lacy Redway is a Jamaican-born and New York-based celebrity hairstylist who has worked with many A-list clients in the entertainment industry. Her work has been featured worldwide in top fashion magazines and red carpets. Lacy is also known for her advocacy for diversity and inclusion in the beauty industry and her dedication to using her platform to empower and uplift marginalized voices.
Known as the creator of Goddess Locs, Kari Williams is a renowned celebrity hairstylist and trichologist who has built a successful career in the beauty industry. She is known for her expertise in natural hair care and has worked with high-profile clients such as Brandy, Ava DuVernay, and Meagan Good. Dr. Kari has styled celebrities at her Los Angeles salon, Mahogany Hair Revolution, for 18 years.
