Every year, just before Fall makes its big debut, comes New York Fashion Week. This annual series of events is when the style-conscious look to the runways to catch a glimpse of what’s to come when it comes to fashion.
Are you ready to upgrade for the upcoming season, Rosettes? Here’s our list of Fall fashion looks we love, straight from the most fashionable city in the world.
The 1990s + Knitwear
Maybe it’s the overall focus on comfort that fashion has taken since the chaos of 2020, but Knitwear is back in a big way this year.
That’s not to say knits aren’t classic - they show up in just about every in-the-know designer’s Fall collection, year after year.
Remember sweater vests? These 1990’s staples have made their comeback, along with lots of layering. Part of the appeal is their versatility - easy to dress up or down, formfitting or loose. The knitwear trend doesn’t stop at sweater vests. Cable knit cardigans and pullovers are also all the rage; the thicker, the better.
Other nostalgic 90’s NYFW looks we loved included upgraded grunge. Aside from plaid prints galore, this style also goes heavy on layering.
With social responsibility and global consciousness being a priority for so many modern fashion mavens, it’s no surprise that the concept of layering would gain traction right now. Fitted tees topped with tank dresses and summer staples stacked with heavier outerwear are just two ways with the 90s inspired, modern grunge trend that rocked the runway.
Cream is Queen
Every season we see specific colors pop up more than others on the runway, and this season cream is having a moment. 2021’s NYFW saw lots of ‘fits comprised of cream on cream, tapping into that layering trend with a touch of elegance.
Neutral, eye-catching, and clean, the cream is poised to be what nude was for fashion last year, and we’re here for it! This adaptable shade works on every skin color from deep to fair and gives off a certain glow.
Look-at-me Legs
It’s safe to say hosiery is a Fall essential for most, especially if you live in climates that tip towards the more relaxed side in Autumn. But even if you don’t usually need stan for stockings, this year’s statement hosiery trends will make you change your tune.
A stylish spin on staying warm, one of this year’s trends is eye-catching legwear that won’t soon be forgotten. From vibrant patterns and prints to color-blocked tights that turn heads were all across the catwalk.
Not one to cause a commotion? Try the milder take on the trend with sheer black tights that are dotted or patterned.
Crushin’ on Crushed Velvet
Going hand in hand with the 1990’s trend, the NYFW runways saw the return of lots of crushed velvet. Those who love crushed velvet know that it never really goes out of style, being a timeless classic that represents taste and discernment. Nothing quite feels as fancy as velvet, and this season’s trends did not ignore that.
That said, of course, velvet dresses were in abundance at NYFW, fitting with the romantic vibes velvet can’t help but give off. Hemlines that are in when it comes to crushed velvet? Maxi dresses had a big moment, but midis and minis are also trending.
When it comes to talking trousers, wide-leg crushed velvet is in, and we think it’s a brilliant take on the trend that blends comfort and luxury.
So what 2021 NYFW trends are you loving, Rosettes?
